If you were to ask any 'Mormon' (Latter-Day Saint), they would reply most emphatically that they are.
If you are a Latter-Day Saint, you may prefer not to read this and several other pages here in which your real beliefs - whether you realised it or not - are scrutinised to see how they fit with biblical Christianity.
Because it is not our intention to antagonise you, you may choose to press the back button on your browser to return to the main set of pages on this web site.
Please be warned that you may get angry with what you consider to be either outright lies or distortions of the truth. In actual fact, they are not... such a reaction by you would naturally follow from the conditioning ever since you first heard the "Mormon Gospel".
You see, Latter-Day Saints do believe that they are, and not just that, but they are 'better' Christians than 'regular' Christians for two reasons important to them. The first is that they have greater knowledge than Christians because they say they have had a prophet appointed by God to lead them since 1824 when a 14 year-old boy, Joseph Smith, reported that he had heard God's call to him in New York State in the U.S.A.. They claim to have a continuing line of prophets and apostles since that time.
The other reason is that they believe that they - and they alone - are honest and sincere in their struggle to follow in Jesus's way. They can see the evidence of their own eyes when they look at so many people professing to be Christians who make no attempt to turn their backs on the kind of life Jesus and His apostles encouraged us to leave. If nothing else, they are sincere in their beliefs, and in their attempts to turn from their old ways towards the direction that they believe God is calling them.
Consequently, it is not only of little use for someone who is living double standards to try to show them the error of their ways; it may well cause them to close their ears to others as well. So, make darned sure you have removed the ten foot long plank from your eye, brother or sister, before you dare to even think of pointing out to them the tiny splinter in theirs.
They are in all probability far better at following their perceived God than you are in following yours.
So, my Christian friend, do you think I am insulting you? Maybe I am. I am pointing out the basic fact that is applicable to everybody who takes it upon themselves to try to do God's work for Him.
Presumption is in all probability the single greatest 'wrong attitude' in the hearts of Christians at the end of this 20th Century.
Where Mormons (Latter-Day Saints) are wrong is not in their practice of their beliefs. You cannot fault them. They even do what most Christians flatly refuse to do - get out out there and witness their faith to others, and are very succesful in 'converting' even Christians... statistics show that about eighty percent of their converts come from 'mainstream' Christian churches.
Where they are wrong is in their theology. Their God, regardless of what they may tell you, is NOT the Biblical God. He is NOT the God of the Old and New Testament, the 'God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob', also known as the 'Father'. Neither is their 'Jesus the Christ' the same Jesus as is described in the Bible. Nor is their 'Holy Ghost' the same Holy Spirit (the Comforter) who Jesus told His disciples He would send to them.
They say that the two eldest of these spirit children in this one of many similar creations were named Jehovah and Lucifer. At a conference in their particular Heaven, these two promoted opposing plans whereby their spiritual brothers and sisters might attain godhood.
Lucifer's plan entailed compulsion, and not one of Elohim's children would be lost to the Father.
Jehovah's plan, however, allowed for freedom of choice, something not allowed for in Lucifer's proposal.
Elohim chose Jehovah's plan according to the Latter-Day Saints, and at that point, Lucifer was furious, rebelled, and took a third of the host of heaven who sided with him - the spirit children of their father - and was kicked out of heaven.
Elohim, at the appointed time, had a physical sexual relationship with the pure young woman he had picked to become Jehovah's 'mother in the flesh', according to Joseph Smith (the original Mormon prophet), and it was Elohim, not the Holy Ghost, they say, who overshadowed Mary who was betrothed to Joseph the carpenter.
The Holy Ghost, according to them, is yet another spirit child of Elohim and one of his many polygamous exalted wives, and will be the last spirit (which includes you and me as preospective future gods and godesses) to attain godhood through obtaining a mortal body. The fact that the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit) is already God is not discussed by them.
That is polytheism. Polytheism is by definition the belief of the existence of many gods, even if only one of them is worshipped.
There are pages on this site which show without any doubt that the Mormon Church's "General Authorities" are actually lying when they state there is only a handful of punctuation changes that have been made to their scriptures. Those who are unlikely to accept this proof would be those who are too closed in their minds to be prepared to look at what material we have here.
If YOU are a Mormon, and you won't look, brother or sister, could it be that you don't to want to run the risk of admitting you have been conned? Or do you feel that you dare not discover that what we say is true because then YOU may well have to make a decision to seperate from members of your own family?
Yes, that is a real source of concern to Mormons, because it is absolutely true that those who have been branded as 'apostate' are shunned by all other Mormons - even those in their family.
We compare scanned pages from earlier and later printings of their official works, both earlier and later versions having been approved by their hierarchy to be read as scripture; you are3 invited to note the differences. It will be up to YOU to draw what conclusions you wish. I have drawn mine. Please don't close your minds to truth.
While the 'changes' link on the menu bar on the right works, it is not fully functional so as not to confuse you with too much material. There's just a brief description of each work evaluated.
The printing of them was undertaken as a private non-commercial venture for the owner of the printers' proofs dating from last century, by Deseret News Publishing, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The owner was a genuine Mormon who was mystified at the later reaction of the LDS church withdrawing their accreditation for this massive work he had undertaken.
There is a sworn statement at the front of each volume signed by Deseret News Publishing's Plant Manager, Assistant Plant Manager, and Director of Sales, attesting to the genuineness of this print job, Volume 1 in February 1958, and Volume 2 in February 1962. These statutory declarations are among the material included on this web site.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Deseret News Publishing were completely satisfied as to the material being genuine original 1st edition printer's proofs.
Those active in the LDS Church in the last half of the sixties and since have never heard once about these books, although most would have genuinely enquired after earlier editions to see what the prophet wrote. I knew of 'minor spelling and punctuation changes' and was happy to accept an imperfect ill-educated prophet's writings.
In this writer's opinion, this whole affair was a shabby action to inflict on a devoted L.D.S. brother, Wilford C. Wood, who had spent a small fortune publishing these unique works from sources that suddenly were made available to him, for the benefit of all people to read. In actual fact, there are many copies left, available at a very reasonable cost from a variety of sources, and this writer would be happy to point enquirers to a continuing source of supply outside of the LDS church.
I believe that there should be a huge worry that the L.D.S. church should suppress from sale a publication which draws attention to their not telling the truth about the voluminous changes, additions to and subtractions from what their members believe to be unchanged original revelations from God Almighty.
I have a series of authenticated photo - mechanical copies of early editions of other books, all of which had been published by the LDS Church, and which when compared with current editions show considerable contextual change.
The point is that what claims to be God's only true church, which therefore cannot possibly lie, has chosen to lie repeatedly about material changed to conform to completely different teachings not originally taught as part of the 'New and Everlasting Gospel', but which now form that gospel.
It is not 'the church' per se, that has lied. The church is actually its hard-working membership.
As said, the Church is its members, true. But they are misled by these men in total authority over them, who have conditioned their members to believing the saying from a previous LDS prophet (David O McKay): 'When the prophet speaks, your thinking has been done'.
This instruction is still current. It means 'if the General Authorities tell you something, you have no choice but to accept it'.
While there is scriptual authority for a prophet who does not lie to be followed, God's people have always been instructed to test what they are told, so that they will know the truth.
Testing a prophet is not speaking ill of the Lord's annointed, even though you might have been told that it is. It is God's way, described early in the Old Testament, for His people to safely know the differences between false and true prophets, so that they will not follow false ones. On this site you will find material which will allow you to test whether or not God's annointed prophet, speaking to His people, has lied. You make up your mind.
The deception comes from the top. It is not knowingly practiced at Stake and Ward level, but yet those officers continue the lies that there have been either no changes, or minimal punctuation changes. The First Presidency and the Quorum of the 12 Apostles stand solidly behind every single one of these changes and the implied deceit;
why should I claim that they are lying?
Because it is their names listed in the preface to each and every new edition issued, in which there are substantial differences from the original writings.
I am currently working on some notes about how I felt when I discovered that Mormonism was a fraud (I became a Christian as a result in 1987).
Ten years prior to that, I had received a "for your information" copy of a letter to the Australia Adelaide Mission President discussing my being (in the opinion of the LDS Presiding Bishopric) close to apostacy because I was querying contradicting instructions on how to run one of the church's programmes.
Let me spell that out. Three men entrusted with the administration of a major part of God's 'only true church on the face of the earth' had chosen to write a lying letter... either the one to me telling me I was doing a good job was a lie... or the one critical of me to my supervisor was a lie.
This rocked my faith in those who preside over the LDS church and its programmes, because it is instilled into members that these people have been called by God and could therefore do no wrong. Never question what they tell you.
I realised at that moment that there was nobody who I could trust. And I also realised that God's only true church was man-made, and therefore if there was a God, He wasn't at all interested in me because I was a trouble-maker who was rocking the boat. Therefore there was no point in attempting to even live the strict life-style demanded by the Latter-Day Saints.
This leads on to my next point...
One should realise that almost every person who leaves the L.D.S. faith becomes either an agnostic (one who is uncertain whether there is any god) or an aetheist (One who is firm in their belief that there is no god).
Therefore there is absolutely no logical reason why the defector should continue to follow any of God's teachings.
While that teaching is a lie, totally false - and all lies by definition come solely from the 'Father of all Lies' - it is enough to cause the majority of those who leave to turn their backs on God Almighty.
In other words, having discovered that the organisation founded by Joseph Smith was as leaky as a sieve, they turn their back on God, believing that if His 'only true church' is false, He must be so as well.
Be encouraged, there is hope for you. God does exist, and so does Jesus Christ, but not in the form described by the L.D.S. There are many of us who, having known L.D.S. doctrine now worship God and Christ 'In Spirit and in Truth' as Jesus said to the Samaritan woman at the well, described in John's gospel.
If you would like to, please make confidential contact with one or more of a number of us who have found the true Biblical Jesus Christ out of the mess that one falls into on leaving the Latter-Day Saints. There is an ICQ contact panel further down this website where you may send me a completely confidential message if you would like to. Equally you can sent an email to eagles@chatministries.org
This is why we have created this internet chat channel where such matters - and the actual doctrines of the LDS Church - may be discussed in a civil manner, devoid of any histrionics, and where biblical truth may be examined in the light of so much contradictory material taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. While aspects of doctrinal differences may be of interest to some people, the management of the channel will expect guests to inspect the changed texts and other material being prepared for inclusion in this web page, rather than just howl down the claims we make.
Thank you for reading this far !
If I have offended you with what I have said, I am truly sorry, but I make no apology for being direct because the truth needs to be said. What I have written does very fairly represent Latter-Day Saint beliefs and history.
If you should be interested in a series of teaching cassette tapes I have produced, you may read about them on the page entitled "vision" below.
If you would like to look anything up in the 66 books of the Bible, which come from early Jewish and early Christian sources, and which are believed by most Christians to have been inspired of God in their original writing - which was NOT in English, but in Hebrew and Greek, you may use theese search facilities...
