Welcome to our channel's own home page on the World Wide Web. If you arrive and say hullo to us, be patient and wait for an answer. Of course there may not be anybody there except for what is called a 'bot' - a computer program which looks after the channel in our absence.
To reach us on-line...
You can use either of two specially written chat programs which use very little computer resources...
Or you can use a regular web browser and go to undernet's website and select "webchat" from the navigation bar along the top. This will allow you you to join their Internet Relay Chat servers using a browser window. This is clalled a "Java" client, is not as fast as a proper chat program, nor is it as reliable. But it will get you there!
Where it says Select channel: #Newbies type in either #LDS-Deception or #Mormon-error and then press Connect
Our channel has rules and policies, just like all others. Ours are mainly common sense; because we have a specific purpose for our channel, then the rules are framed to safeguard the very reason for establishing the channel.
Perhaps we need to emphasise a very few...
The channel purpose is to provide a meeting place where people may discuss in a civilised manner the many well documented errors and changes in the recorded history of the Mormon (Latter-Day Saint) belief system, and in their documentation.
In a "Mormon" channel, just as in a "Christian" channel, there is seldom opportunity under their rules, for any discussion that might be controversial. So we have this specific place where without attacking one another we can look at these points.
The standard channel topic is 'We believe in the Admonition of Paul: Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith... it is the gift of God'. Other topics may be used from time to time.
All conversations need to be conducted in a friendly manner. If people disagree with one another, then that is fine, and they have no choice but to accept such disagreement. Violent disagreement will result in the removal of the person from channel.
The channel operator(s) is/are in charge at all times.
The only bots and clones permitted will be those of ops recognised by and authenticated with the bots.
Flooding, and/or the posting of scripture not relevant to the topic being discussed, and generally disruptive behaviour is frowned upon.
Not all conversations are appropriate at all times. It is left up to the op's discretion on whether or not the topic is being discussed in a civil and edifying fashion or whether it has become disruptive or chaotic and should be moved on to a more appropriate place.
We remind guests - with tongue in cheek - that in all IRC channels, rule #1 is "the op is always right". Rule #2 is "In the event of an op being wrong, refer to rule #1" :)
He/she/they will run the channel in the way they think fit, subject to the conditions prevailing, as they see them at the time. No communication nor correspondence will be entered into regarding an op's decision.
All others will be kicked, and if necessary, banned, at the discretion of the authorised op(s) at the time.
